It's been quiet on the blog lately, but the holidays were so busy there was barely spare time to sleep it felt like! But here we are in the new year and things are looking great!
I started it off with a model shoot and booking a couple of really fun and meaningful shoots to take place later in the month, plus I'm hoping to do a wedding or two this year! My photography goals this year are to continue growing in my skills (there is always something new to learn!) and growing my business! Here's to a ha It is work work work here this week! Photo shoots every day until the 15th of December, and planning for some new year specials & Valentine's day while prepping for family Christmas and homeschooling my first grader while soothing a teething baby and running a bible study. What did I get myself in to? Some days I'm not to sure, but the craziness, while having it's hard, sobbing on the couch to my hubby with a glass of wine about how I don't know how I can do it all moments, is something that I ultimately love.
The good moments bring so much joy and light and laughter into my life from capturing beautiful moments of lovely families to spending quiet quality time with my own, I can't imagine my life being any different. So thank you Maricopa for your love, your support, and for sharing your lives with me! I am truly blessed and grateful! Now back to work for me! :-) This week is Thanksgiving, and while many have been following the daily thanks on Facebook trend, I admit I am horrible at even thinking about keeping up with those things. So, this morning I want to take a little time to blog about the things I am thankful for and how that is motivating me to give back.
I am thankful that God loved us first so that we could love and live in abundant joy and thanksgiving. I am thankful for my wonderful loving husband without whom I would not know the other half of my soul, and without whom I would not have come to know and experience God in my daily life. He has been a blessing to me since the day we met and continues to fill my life with love, purposefulness, and movie quotes. I am thankful for my children who teach me everyday a little more about being a mother, who humble me, who bring me joy and laughter, and remind me of the sweet innocence we should all carry in our hearts. I am thankful for my family - for my my mother who is always there for me, for my father who has always been a great example and able to make me smile. I am thankful for my in-laws who have made moving to Arizona less lonely and truly tried to make me feel at home here. I am thankful for my friends, both old and new, who have opened their homes and their lives to us over the years and thru the years to come - people that I have trusted with my heart and, on occasion, my children. Without those amazing, wonderful people, I would not have come to know so much about myself or come to love others so much. Reflecting on all of these wonderful blessings in my life almost always makes me think of those less fortunate who may not have as many, or, because of circumstances, may not be able to see all the blessings they do have. My heart truly aches for them and yearns to help. So this season, on top of the amazing special for mini sessions and sales on all other photography services (see the store for details), Pixelated Pixie Photography is giving back. This holiday season I am committed to giving from my profits from Thanksgiving thru to the New Year to a cause that is very dear to my heart, supporting women who have been abused. 50% of everything I make this holiday season will be donated to Home for Hope Woman's Shelter in Casa Grade. Additionally, you can donate thru my website in the store by purchasing a $1, $5, $10, $25, $50, or $100 donation. I thank you all in advance for your support and love! There is something timelessly beautiful and sweet in the bond between a father and a daughter. There is a quiet gentleness in it. No one makes her smile bigger or laugh more loud than my husband.
I love to watch them together, or hear their interaction from the other room. The sounds of pure joy echo in his voice as he talks to her. Her sweet giggles and coos are infectious. My heart just leaps at the sights and sounds of them simply enjoying the other's company. It's like a little mystery or a secret they share, and I fumble to define the awe-inspiring beauty of it. Luckily for me, they invented the camera phone, and while my Nikons may be charging or in another room (which may as well be another planet when you are wanting to capture a 'right now' moment), I always have my phone next to me. Last night, I captured this of my husband and my 6 month old daughter. I shared this photo last night on my facebook, and looking at it this morning I still can't get enough! There is just nothing sweeter, and this photo to me is absolutely timeless! I love that she is smiling and joyous in her infectious little way, and my husband's face is just oozing love. Precious! It is absolutely 100% true that I have already taken my girls to see Santa Claus. It is also completely true that I have already decorated my house for Christmas and have been joyously prancing around my house singing Christmas songs in my head. I can't help it, I just adore this time of year!
I have been loving taking all these beautiful Christmas themed photos of beautiful children and wonderful families. I am so excited about the give away photo shoot and the $25 mini session special! After taking a little bit of a time out yesterday to focus on our Veterans, I went full Christmas mode galore, gathering props and planning backdrops.
My sweet little lady was quite happy to help test out a few shots. I call the picture to the left "what you mean I can no play with lights?". It's darling and I just love the burn effect on this image. Today I have the honor and privilege of photographing a 9 week old baby girl. I have several ideas, and I am hopeful for sweet baby sleep that will allow for some super cute shots from "sugar plum slumbers" to "the sweetest gift", "the real santa baby" and "bow-tiful". Stay tuned for the results to be posted later today and more Christmas inspired photos all through out the week! And if you're looking to get your pictures taken for those special Christmas cards - now's the time! Book your $50 mini session today! Is there anything more timeless than a hero? Today we take time to pay tribute and say thank you to those who have fought, served, died, and are serving out country. Without these brave men and women we would not have the freedom and liberty that we are truly blessed to have in this country. Despite any political differences, religious beliefs, or other arguments we may have with each other - I think we can all agree that America is a great place, and that it is so because of the few, the proud, and the brave that make up our military. As a special thank you to honor the local Vets that live in Maricopa I collected pictures and boots from those who were willing to bring them by for a very special photo shoot. It was a last minute idea that yielded only 3 this year, but my goal is to grow this over the years to honor all of our Vets in Maricopa and line the highway with the boots of those who have served. If you are interested for next year, please message me or fill out the contact form below so that I have your information on file for next years opportunity! Photographers - you're welcome to participate and come take your own photos too! Also, these pictures are available for free to ALL in the community in Maricopa (for personal use only!) in honor of this very special day. Please message me if you would like the digital copies of these images. (also free to those who like my facebook page!) "Frosted window panes, candles gleaming inside - painted candy canes on the tree, Santa's on his way, he's filled his sleigh with things - things for you and for me. It's the time of year when the world falls in love. Every song you hear seems to say - Merry Christmas, may your new years dreams come true. and this song of mine in 3/4 time, wishes you the same thing too!" It's that amazing wonderful season again - and I am so excited to get started this coming week with Christmas pictures galore! I decided to play around a little today and my heart is all warm and fuzzy from the results. This photo I am calling Jingle Bell Rock. I may miss some of the "frosted window panes", snow and chill this season, but I have to say, this is like a Christmas postcard from Arizona, and I just love it.
Weddings are a timeless and wonderful thing - a declaration of love and commitment that brings a wealth of emotion for those getting married and those who are the lucky invitees who get to witness the union.
Before I left Arizona for Virginia beach in October, I had the honor of photographing the Lorenz-Quinn wedding. It was a beautiful and sentimental affair, and while the weather kept the party indoors, which proved a challenge to shoot over the course of the changing lights of the day, it was a joy and a privilege to celebrate with them. Here are some of my favorite photographs! |
